ECHO SESSION | FEDERICO CALCAGNO

18 Sep. 2025 - 21:00
Federico Calcagno - clarinets TBA
Echo Sessions is a cutting edge concert series blending Jazz, Contemporary Music and Collective Improvisation into resonant, spontaneous performances. To projects who play those concerts will be offered up to three days Residency at Sounds, right before playing (mon-tues-wedn) preparing and researching for the performance. The idea is that during those three days of Residency, artists can prepare material for the performance, trying out things, pushing the boundaries considering that the audience of Echo Sessions are mostly interested in these kinds of music. After the concerts there will be a Jam Session. . . Federico Calcagno is a clarinetist, composer, described by All About Jazz (IT) as "the new bishop of Italian and European jazz." Recognized with several awards, including Top Jazz 2020 by Musica Jazz as Best New Italian Talent, Calcagno is a prominent bass clarinet player and improviser on the European jazz scene. He has released eight albums as leader or co-leader, the most recent being Mundus Inversus, featuring original compositions performed by his international octet. Active in both Italy and the Netherlands, he leads multiple projects such as The Dolphians sextet, his international octet, and the trios Fade In and Piranha. In the Netherlands, he works with Brainteaser Orchestra, Jort Terwijn Önder, and others, while in Italy he's recently playing with Ferdinando Romano’s Invisible Painters, Anais Drago Relevé. In 2021, he co-founded Habitable Records, an independent label promoting genre-crossing music with strong social values. His composition Eternal Rhythm premiered at Gaudeamus Festival 2022, performed by NEUE Ensemble and Indian percussionist B.C. Manjunath. He has performed at major festivals such as North Sea Jazz, Melbourne Jazz Festival, L’Off Jazz Montreal, Umbria Jazz Winter, Amsterdam Jazz Fest, JazzMi and many more.
