Sixty years ago, Eric Dolphy died prematurely, the victim of a diabetic coma, a tragedy compounded by medical negligence due to the prejudices of the time. A brilliant multi-instrumentalist, he left his mark in the years preceding his death by participating in some of jazz's most influential albums.
This sextet pays tribute to him by revisiting the last four years of his life, essential to understanding his legacy. From his decisive influence on John Coltrane to his inseparable bond with Charles Mingus, including George Russell and Dolphy himself, we explore the imprint he left behind.
His influence continues to resonate long after his death. The body of work he left behind, spanning just 36 years, spans several lifetimes of monumental creativity.
