Through her compositions, Laurence Cousseau offers a perspective on a world situated between the real and the dreamlike. Her inspirations blend introspection, fantasized memories of enigmatic landscapes, and works of art and craftsmanship imbued with strong mystical energy. This results in a mix of modesty and irony, meditative trances, and mysterious dissipations. Her work incorporates jazz energy (Eric Dolphy, Charles Mingus), colors drawn from the music of Prokofiev, Jolivet, Messiaen, and Takemitsu, as well as a contemporary jazz language (polyrhythmic layers, talea color, modes of limited transposition) influenced by the music of Magic Malik, Bo van der Werf, and Pierre Van Dormael
